Company History

Pacific Tug was established in 1965 by the first-generation Peters Family, comprising of brothers Con and George Peters. They started out as professional fishermen, and assisting a tug Master in Moreton Bay led them to be appointed to do towing work for Harbour & Marine in Moreton Bay.

Just four years later, the brothers commissioned their first Tug, the ‘Bora’ which was built locally and launched in Brisbane in 1970, before working in Weipa and Hay Point, Mackay. From these humble beginnings, the company flourished through the dredging, construction and coastal towing sectors for more than 20 years. By the mid 1980’s, it owned and operated 18 marine craft consisting of tugs, barges and crew boats.

The majority of Pacific Tug assets were bought out by the Adelaide Steam Howard Smith Group in 1987, however the company remained with the Peters family.

By 2005, the three sons of Con Peters had completed their education and gained valuable industry knowledge and experience.

Pacific Tug was regenerated with Chris Peters, Master Marine D.N.S., B.Bus as the CEO, ably supported by his brothers Sam and Robert, a board of independent directors and an experienced executive team.

Today the company continues to grow and has diversified the services on offer to be able to provide fully integrated maritime solutions for our clients.  Our fleet of over 30 vessels comprises of tug boats, crew transfer and support vessels and barges.  With highly experienced executive staff drawn from the maritime and allied industries, Pacific Tug continues to grow its strength as a player in Australia’s maritime industry.
